14 Days to Freedom: Day 3

Day 3:

My skin feels a little more itchy, but Day 2’s break-out seems to have vanished.  Wow!  And my skin is literally glowing.  All of this in just 2 days?  Why did I avoid this for so long?   I look ethereal!  My aura is beaming!  Cosmetic companies would be out of business if more people were doing this.  In the mirror, I notice even more physical changes.  It seems like the cellulite on my abdomen and thighs has thrown a party without my permission and invited WAY too many guests!  It looks…sigh…well, you know what cellulite looks like.  I’m not pleased with this residual, but I am inspired to hit the gym.  I hit it hard, again, with loads of energy to spare.  Phenomenal!  I feel like some kind of super she-ro!  This is truly remarkable!  I feel a little bloated from all the fluids, but I’m consistent with taking all of my supplements and drinking the fluids as prescribed.  I read scripture and spend some time with God.  I feel really great and again, I’m inspired to put in some work toward the things that I’ve put on my list, so I do, and I get lots of great things done.  God and the angels are working with me and I can hear their instructions very clearly!  I’m being guided by a very quiet, but very clear and direct inner voice, and I am listening!  Okay, so with the exception of the cellulite, Day 3 is another good day, and I’m loving the process, but the recipe hunt is still in full gear.

14 Days to Freedom: Day 2

Day 2:

I feel fine.  When I got out of bed, I was nervous that I wouldn’t make it to the bathroom fast enough!  I felt like my bladder was going to explode!  But I made it!  Whew!  When I turned on the bathroom light, my vision was so much sharper.  It was as if I was seeing in HD!  I’m talking 1080dpi, not 720.  It was amazing!  Things that are always in my bathroom looked surreal and so sharp that I literally reached out and touched my son’s hooded shark towel.  That blue has never looked so…BLUE!  So beautiful!  I smile and reflect on some of the things I’m grateful for and feel tears fall from my eyes.  I’m thinking, “Life is pretty good,“  when my sense of gratitude is abruptly disrupted by what sounds like a saber-toothed tiger.  It was my stomach.  I was feeling a bit hungry, but after I drink a few sips of water and vegetable broth, the tiger was calmed and I feel ALIVE!  Wow!  Who knew organic vegetable broth was so invigorating!  I’m noticing a couple of minor physical changes---a mild break-out on my forehead and cheeks, and by midday, I’ve developed a slight headache.  I ditched the headache after sipping some water and herbal tea, but the break-out seems to have worsened.

I’m not as focused on food as I was on Day 1, but out of habit, I still go to the fridge as if I have the option to nibble on some solid food, but I see the reminder I put on the refrigerator door that I’m fasting until January 12th, and I slowly step away from the food storage appliance.  I think it may have whispered my name as I walked away.  I’ve got to say, I feel beautifully energized and during my personal training session, I seemed to have to take less breaks than usual during the hour-long torture, I mean, session.  I feel good.  I did find that I needed to drink water more frequently during my work-out.  My skin feels a little itchy after the workout, but it’s tolerable and the dry-brushing helps to relieve it significantly.  I’m guessing the itching is just toxins being released from my pores.  When I breathe, I feel like my whole body breathes and I’m much more conscious of every breath.  My thoughts are a lot clearer and my usual worries, although they have not been resolved, don’t seem to have as much significance.  Everything is pretty great, but I’m not sure I had been focusing on all the greatness for the last few weeks, maybe even months, before I started this process.   I feel thankful and happy, and still really, REALLY productive!  I worked out, played like a gazillion games with the littles, read some books, meditated, wrote an article, logged what I want to accomplish for the first 3 months of the year, did laundry, cooked for the kids and still felt energized!  Now, I know that I’ve done this amount of work before, but by the time I reached the finish line, there was nothing left.  I still had energy to spare today!  This is by far the best feeling ever---to be able to get all that you’re responsible for done and still have some fuel left to care for yourself.  That’s pretty awesome!  I’m convinced that God is sitting shotgun with me on this ride and I smile myself to sleep.

P.S.: Still looking at recipes.

14 Days to Freedom

So, in recognition of the annual "New Year, New You" trend, I’ve decided to do something I've never done to ring in 2014!  I didn't make any resolutions or proclamations of lofty, unattainable plans.  Instead, I actually did something.  That's right!  I put my bottom in gear and decided to make some progress with my health-related goals.  I've been contemplating cleaning up my already clean diet even more by making a move toward vegetarianism.  I'm still not certain if vegetarianism is the absolute right fit for me, but the health benefits make the effort worthwhile!  So, in preparation for this transition, I went to a physician and herbalist to begin my very first fast.  Whew!  I can't believe I'm even considering letting go of vittles for days at a time (I’m a total food junkie), but if it's for the advancement of my health, I'm in.

I’ve read that fasting has a slew of health benefits including increased energy, stamina and mental clarity, weight loss, decreased depression, the elimination of toxicity in the body and so much more!  For the increase in energy alone, I’m game!  The fast I’ve chosen to embark upon is a liquid fast prescribed for 10-14 days wherein only distilled water, herbal teas (sweetened with raw honey or agave nectar), fruit and vegetable juices and a vegetable broth and water mixture.  I’m also taking a multivitamin, vitamin D3 and herbal supplements prescribed by my doctor to flush out toxins from my colon and other organs.  I’m engaging in frequent exercising, prayer, meditation, spiritual readings and dry-brushing my skin to further increase my overall health.  That’ the plan!  I’m doing this under the supervision of a physician and he’s on call any time I need him to answer my questions and address any concerns that may arise.  I’ve decided to take record of my thoughts and experiences each day that I’m fasting.  So, feel free to follow along!  Perhaps you’ll be inspired or encouraged to run for your life any time you hear the word “fast.”  Whatever happens, you and I are in this together for the next couple of weeks.  I’m sure we’ll both learn a thing or two about starvation...I mean…fasting.  Here goes…….

Day 1:

I’m feeling half reluctant, half excited about my decision to begin this process.
I’m tempted to turn back and head to Five Guys for a cup/brown paper bag full of thick,
greasy French fries sprinkled with salt and drenched in Heinz ketchup.  I only use Heinz.
I haven’t had another brand that does the trick.  I digress.  Can you tell that I really want
some French fries?  Like right now.   Really, any food will do.  I’ve been searching websites
for recipes that I’m already stoked about making post-cleansing.  I’m really excited (about the
recipes, I mean….well, I guess about the cleanse too)!

Anyhow, aside from missing food, I feel pretty good.  I do find myself having to divert my attention from thoughts of food, especially when preparing meals for the kids, smelling the aromas from my kitchen and seeing the barrage of commercials advertising food products.  **Sidebar: I never really realized that almost every commercial is advertising food...unhealthy food, might I add.  OMG!  It is no wonder we have so many healh-related illnesses.  As a nation, we're food obsessed!**   I’m surviving though, and to be honest, without having to take much time to eat, prep food, etc., I’m finding that I’m far more productive.  Surprisingly, I feel very energetic, and almost euphoric by bedtime.  It’s kind of like feeling the healthy version of being tipsy.  I’m loving it!  I’ve gotten a lot of great ideas today, all of which I’m jotting down in the pretty purple journal my mom bought me for Christmas.  Really good stuff, and I’m so excited about getting started on everything!  It’s like I’ve got this burst of energy to do everything that I’ve been thinking of doing in the past all of sudden!  It’s a pretty nice feeling.  I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of it all.  C’mon Day 2!
